Cinco de Mayo '09

Ah yes, the famous day in Mexican history when General Ignacio Zaragoza led his forces to stop the invasion of France into Mexico in 1862.
I am neither Mexican nor French trying to celebrate past victories or drown away the sorrows of loss. I do believe a great day in history deserves a delicious cocktail to capture its moment in time.
General Zaragoza would have loved to have had one of these at the end of that day.

Smoking Pistolero

1 1/2 oz. Gold Tequila
1/2 oz. 16 yr. Lagavulin
1 oz. Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur or Grand Marnier
3/4 oz. Fresh lime juice
3/4 oz. Fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz. Simple syrup/agave nectar

Garnish: Smoked sea salt rim and lime

Prep: Rinse glass with 16 yr. Lagavulin, discarding the remaining. Combine remaining ingredients into a mixing tin with ice. Shake and strain into a large salted rim snifter with ice.
